Maxtex® Thin Layer Surfacing
Maxtex is Northstone's proprietary thin surface course designed with durability, economy, safety, noise and spray reduction features foremost in mind.
The thin 20mm nominal thickness overlay has now been successfully laid on many sites, from narrow country roads, to road racing circuits and heavily trafficked motorways. The use of Shell's Cariphalte TS® polymer modified binder in the hot mix, and conventional tack coat to glue the mat to the road, provides a high performance thin wearing course. It can be used as an overlay for maintenance as well as a surface course for new construction.
The porous nature and negative texture characteristics of Maxtex yields a unique, quiet, smooth running surface with excellent spray reducing and skid resistant qualities. The skid resistance can be further enhanced by the use of high PSV aggregates. Using a conventional paver, a thin layer is laid quickly on tack coat and rolled to form a highly durable and cost effective matrix. The speed of application also ensures minimal disruption, and, depending on the site characteristics, preparatory planing and raising of kerbs may not be required.
Maxtex is:
- Durable – incorporates high quality polymer modified binder
- Safe – high PSV aggregates and negative texture enhance wet skid resistance
- Economical – at 20-25mm laid thickness, coverage is almost double that of standard hot rolled asphalt
- Quiet – 3-5 dB(A) reduction in noise generation compared to hot rolled asphalt
- Spray reducing – function of porous free draining matrix
- Uniform – excellent ride quality is achieved by the evenness of the surface.
