South Eastern Regional College (SERC) Construction and Environmental Sustainability students recently attended a tour of our two biggest construction projects in Bangor, the Olympic swimming pool and the new Bangor Grammar School.
Simon Kinghan course Lecturer explains: “We were delighted to be given the opportunity by Farrans Construction to visit their sites. This is beneficial to the students in a range of the subjects that they cover. At SERC, we teach our students a wide range of modules from Health and Safety to Environmental Sustainability, but it is only when students go out and visit construction sites such as this that they can apply their knowledge.
“From the students’ point of view it’s a great way to see what a real construction site is like. Students get to see first-hand the construction process and to speak to the engineers working in the industry. The tours also provided an excellent shop window to showcase the many and varied career opportunities that the construction industry offers.” Continued Simon.
Our construction Site Manager, Cathal Montague said: “We were delighted to be able to show the students around the sites so that they could see for themselves how the skills they are learning now can be used in practice in the future.”
Simon thanked us for facilitating the visit and added: “Farrans have been extremely helpful in facilitating the visits and the college would like to thank Julie McGuigan and Cathal Montague for their help and cooperation.”
