The M80 Stepps to Haggs Project has now attained substantial completion
The M80 Stepps to Haggs Project has now attained substantial completion on the main phases of the project, with the PTU (permit to use) Certificates having being issued by Transport Scotland, the client for the M80 works, on Friday 22/07/20 for Phase 1A and 2 which includes the 18 Km of new and upgraded sections.
The project, when it started back in the spring of 2009, was seen as a welcome boost for Scotland’s construction industry as well as improving the central Scotland transport infrastructure.
The £320 million project is a contract to design, build, finance and operate (DBFO) the Stepps to Haggs section of the M80 motorway.
The M80 contract includes a 30 year operation and maintenance period. Construction of 18km of dual two/three lane motorway, 7 motorway Interchanges, 20 new structures, 20 culverts, 4 retaining walls, demolition of two bridges, 17 other structures which were to be strengthened or widened and extensive grouting works to be carried out in 3 areas of former mine workings.
When the final section of the M80 is completed in a few weeks time, the M80 Project will have been constructed ahead of time and on budget, and will provide a significant step in the upgrade of Scotland’s transport infrastructure.
